The spiritual aspects of salt

While diving deep into the story of salt, there was this unexpected aspects of salt which was a big inspiration for our project.

Salt seemed to have a big spiritual background. Salt is associated with cleanliness, protection and purity. We dove deeper into this side of salt in the hope we could use it in our project.

When talking about the spiritual aspects of salt, we mean halite.

Salt has a lot of metaphysical properties:

* Wealth, reflecting and transferring spiritual energies. 

* Connecting to the ocean, the Moon and its cycles, and grounding spiritual energies into the material plane

* Devotion, spiritual development, and an alchemical return to wholeness

* Hospitality, house warming, and domestic harmony

* Purification, spiritual protection, and releasing unwanted influences

* Insights on life, death, and spiritual rebirth

* Intuition, balancing the emotions, and altered states like dreaming

* Traditionally used for physical well being, vitality, and longevity

Seeing these properties, some properties were very useful for out project. Especially the properties of hospitality, purification, protection, resealing of unwanted influences and balancing emotions.

However, we still wondered where these properties came from. We searched for an explanation so we can use these properties in our projects to our advantage.

Hospitality:
Salt was a very precious good in history. It was a way of showing your wealth. The sharing of salt became a symbol of hospitality, friendship and mutual respect because of its worth.

Purification, Protection and Releasing of unwanted influences:
Because salt prevents other things from spoiling and the association with holiness, salt is also used for purification, spiritual protection and releasing of unwanted influences.

Balancing emotions:
Salt has a literal connection to the moon; it comes from evaporated seas that have been buried deep in the earth. Because of this connection, salt is associated with the “feminine” like balancing the emotions, intuition, and altered states like dreaming.
